Building a project
Repository
A Git repository stores a project's recorded history and references such as branches and tags. Your working files are the version you currently edit. A remote repository stores shared history elsewhere; it is not automatically the running application.
You might see: repo, Git repository, code repository
In a real project
Your laptop has the reading-list repository and editable files. GitHub holds a shared remote repository. Your hosting provider separately serves a deployed version of the app to visitors.
A common mistake
Confusing a repository with a deployment or a backup of all application data. User records, service settings and uncommitted files may live outside the recorded Git history.
Put it into practice
These lessons open through your account. Your kit determines which are available.
