Commit

A commit is a recorded snapshot in Git history, with a message and links to earlier commits. It records the content selected for that commit. Making a commit does not automatically upload it to a remote or deploy it for users.

You might see: Git commit, checkpoint, revision

In a real project

After fixing the reading-list layout, you stage the intended files and commit them with a message describing the repair. You can inspect that snapshot later even after making further changes.

A common mistake

Assuming a commit includes every edited file. Inspect what is staged before recording it so unrelated changes and secrets do not enter the snapshot.

Put it into practice
