How the web works
Request
A request is a message asking a server to do something. An HTTP request identifies a destination and method, carries headers, and may include a body. It describes what the caller wants; it is not proof that the caller has permission.

In a real project
Your reading list sends GET /books to load books. Saving a new book can send POST /books with its title in the body. The server still checks who is asking and validates the submitted title.
A common mistake
Looking only at the URL when debugging. The method, headers and body also affect what the server receives and how it handles the request.
