How the web works

Proxy

An intermediary that receives network requests and forwards, redirects or modifies them according to configured rules. A reverse proxy sits in front of services; some applications also run request logic near the network edge.

You might see: reverse proxy, edge proxy, request middleware

In a real project

Visitors reach one public address. A proxy forwards booking requests to the application and redirects an old workshop page to its current destination.

A common mistake

Relying on a redirect as the only access check. The protected server operation and data layer must still enforce their permission rules.
