Building a project
Working directory
The working directory is the folder a running program uses as its current location. In a shell, it is the starting point for ordinary relative file paths. Different terminal sessions can have different working directories, even within the same editor.
You might see: current working directory, cwd, current directory, current folder
In a real project
One terminal is working in /home/sam/reading-list while another is in /home/sam. The relative name README.md refers to a file in each terminal's own current folder, so it can select different files or fail in one session.
A common mistake
Assuming every terminal starts in your project root or shares the folder of another terminal. Confirm the current location before using relative paths or running project commands.
Put it into practice
