Identity and security

Auth

A common shorthand for an application's identity and access machinery. Authentication establishes who is making a request; authorization decides whether that person may perform the requested action. Sessions carry identity between requests.

In a real project

An instructor signs in to the workshop portal. Their session identifies them, while a separate rule determines whether they may view a particular student's booking.

A common mistake

Assuming signed-in means allowed. A valid identity can still lack permission for another person's record or an administrative action.
