Our recommendation
When to choose it
Start with a Git repository on GitHub and a small reviewable change workflow. Deploy manually if that is your release policy; hosted automation is optional.
A good fit for
- A product with source code to preserve
- A team reviewing changes before release
Choose something else when
Choose another Git host when organizational, data-residency or collaboration requirements call for it.
Watch out for
- Git stores local history; GitHub is a remote collaboration service. Push only after reviewing the change.
- A private repository is not a place for live secrets, and source history is not a database backup.
How costs work
Account plans and optional metered services
Review seats and optional services separately. Hosting source does not require enabling paid automation.

What connects to it
